111 Ranch Park Picnic Pavilion

Garland, Texas

This project included a group picnic shelter and outdoor restroom facility for a remote, heavily wooded city park. The design of the picnic shelter, with its segmented conical shape roof form supported by concrete columns, was derived from the nature of the site. The shape of the roof focuses attention on the largest bur oak tree on the site and allows the geometry of the roof to be completed by the natural canopy of the trees.

The project received a design awards from the Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1987 and Park Magazine in 1987.
