Corsicana State School Master Plan
Corsicana, Texas
Corsicana State School was a juvenile correctional facility operated by the Texas Youth Commission (TYC). It was used for youth with mental illnesses or severe emotional disturbances. The facility closed in 2013. In 2017 the City of Corsicana purchased the 98 acre campus from TYC. The City asked RHAID to develop a master plan for the property that would incorporate both private and public redevelopment opportunities. The portion of the master plan devoted to private development provides for a variety of mixed uses that may include retail, restaurants, medical offices, loft apartments, garden homes, assisted living facilities, hotel, gymnasium, and a museum. The portion of the master plan devoted to public safety facilities include a new central fire station, fire administration offices, a regional police & fire training academy, and fire burn house/training tower. The entire master plan is connected by a series of pedestrian walkways.
