South Waco Community Center

Waco, Texas

The existing South Waco Community Center was constructed in 1964. A small addition was added in the late 1960’s and still another addition was attached to the building in the early 1970’s. Despite efforts by the City, over the years the conditions of the existing building deteriorated to a point where the building became functionally ineffective. A decision was made not only totally renovate both the building’s interior and exterior but also add additional space. The design for the project was based upon the concept on connecting all recreation, community, and other activity spaces by a new glass enclosed corridor facing the adjacent park. The corridor not only allows natural light into the building but it also allows people outside to see activities inside the building.
