Sachse Animal Shelter
Sachse, Texas
One of the City’s major goals for its new animal shelter was to increase the awareness and promotion of animal adoption. The site for the new animal shelter is on one of the City’s major thoroughfares. The building has been designed to take advantage of the exposure the site offers. The public spaces, including adoption areas, are placed in a “pavilion” like space and plaza that face the street. Animal intake, work areas, kennels, and other support space are located on the backside of the building screened from the street.
The building contains 25 kennels, 4 isolation kennels, housing for both domestic and feral cats, cat condos, laboratory, indoor and outdoor meet-n-greet space, staff work areas and offices, and a multi-purpose room. The building’s exterior is designed with a combination of metal siding and limestone.
